Overview and understanding of domestic abuse
Target Audience
Front line workers who come across domestic violence in the course of their daily work e.g. health workers, substance abuse workers, counsellors, therapists and housing workers.
Outcomes for attendees
Attendees will gain a critical understanding of - domestic abuse in all its forms, why people use abuse in intimate relationships and the impact of abuse on survivors. There is a particular focus on the effect of domestic abuse on children.

- recognise particular risk factors
- broach the subject of domestic abuse in conversations with service users
- motivate people towards change
- gather and share information
- respond to issues of domestic abuse in the course of daily contact with clients
- focus interventions on the direct source of risk, the perpetrator, and avoid overloading the victim with responsibility.
